We produce pure honey from hives maintained in what we call a “natural” process. Many beekeepers, especially the larger commercial outfits, treat their colonies with hard synthetic chemicals to retard pests and diseases. There is a trend toward treatment-free beekeeping, but we do need to keep our bees healthy, just as a rancher keeps his herd healthy or you keep your pet dog or cat healthy. So here is what we do: we use a method of keeping healthy bees by using things that naturally exist in hives and honey, as opposed to hard synthetic chemicals. Honey is a simple sugar, but contains a complex array of naturally occurring “chemicals” that exist in the surrounding environment. We use those natural ingredients, added to the hive at the proper times of the year to augment the amounts that occur naturally and help the bees stay healthy.
